China imported and exported food worth 1.25 trillion yuan [180 billion USD] in 2018. This was a growth of 4.9% in comparison with the previous year. Brazil, the ASEAN, and the EU were China's top three trade partners. The 17th session of the China (Luohe) Food Exposition took place in Luohe, Henan, on May 16th, 2019. Gao Jibo, the head of data analysis at the General Administration of Customs China, announced the "2018 China Food Industry Import and Export Trade Conditions" during the exposition.
According to the analysis of Chinese import and export during 2018 the overall conditions improved. Trade relations with top trading partners became stronger. The pace of import growth was quicker than the pace of export growth. Gao Jibo also pointed out that the future of Chinese export will become more difficult as the EU, the USA, and Korea all increased trade barriers for Chinese food products.
