"I am covering the whole orchard as I do not want to lose everything due to the rain," reports Nadia Nobili, a cherry producer from Vignola (Modena).
"I chose not to plant early varieties, so the production is safe so far. Anyway almost all my orchards are covered with anti-rain nets and I am planning on covering the remaining ones over the next couple of seasons. Cherries in open fields are ripening now, so the rain of the past few days has not caused a lot of damage."
"We are still a bit worried about the low temperatures, as they are slowing ripening own. As soon as sunny days are back, there is the risk that all varieties will start ripening all at once."
Nadia manages almost 2 hectares of cherry orchards and the fruit is collected by the Apofruit cooperative. Almost all varieties were renewed. One of the latest orchards is made up of the Sweet Arianna, Gabriel and Lorenz varieties, in this order due to pollination.
"We also need to pay a lot of attention to fertigation, as it is essential to obtain good grades. Price is a variable that depends not only on organoleptic qualities but also on grade."
