Destined for carrots, potatoes, broccoli and onions

Australia: Spud king Galati locks in Lancelin land to grow more vegetables

Tony Galati plans to grow more vegetables after buying land at Lancelin. He said the family this week settled on the purchase of a 1200ha property, which will be used to grow more carrots, potatoes, broccoli and onions.

The new property will enable the Galati group to increase the volume of vegetables grown by about 40 per cent. Most of it is now grown on its land at Myalup near Bunbury.

“Having this additional land will enable us to be more efficient and pass the savings on to customers,” Galati said.

He said the Lancelin property -already operating as a market garden- was selected some distance from Myalup to benefit from the different seasonal conditions and to spread risk. The family had been looking to expand its market garden operations for some time, to supply its growing string of Spudshed stores throughout Perth. The Lancelin property will employ 40 to 60 staff.
