Exports of various fresh Honduran products in 2018, including vegetables, legumes, watermelons, melons, and bananas, amounted to 700 million dollars, according to the secretary of the National Association of Industrialists (ANDI), German Perez.
Vegetable exports experienced the highest growth. In 2016 they amounted to 90 million dollars, in 2017 to 94.3 million dollars, and in 2018 they totaled 101 million dollars.
There has also been great growth in fruit exports, specifically of melons and watermelons. In 2016 they amounted to 53.3 million and in 2018 to 76 million dollars, a growing trend that is being observed again this year.
Banana exports increased from 510 to 532 million dollars in the last three years, but this year prices are expected to remain the same or fall a bit, which may affect the growth in revenue.
It should be noted that in the North American market alone agricultural exports generate more than 900 million dollars a year.
