Price of Chinese green peppers unusually high

Green pepper production areas in China suffer from extensive and frequent rainfall. These weather conditions limit the production capacity, which in turn drives the price up. The main supply of green peppers currently comes from Guangxi. The supply volume from Shandong was relatively small this year. Even after March, when Guangxi production areas suffered from continuous rainfall, the green peppers from Shandong still did not enter the market in large volumes. The price of green peppers therefore remained high. The price of green peppers from Guangxi is currently around 145 yuan [20.96 USD] per box (11 kg). Markets report prices of 1,115 yuan [161.16 USD] per 100 kg. This is more than twice the price of 520 yuan [75.16 USD] around this time last year.
