"Everybody in Jinxiang, Shandong, pays close attention to garlic production as it is the main industry in the area. This is the season when the new harvest of garlic begins to enter the market. The price of garlic was around 2 yuan [0.29 USD] per kg last year. This year's price is strong by comparison. The current price of garlic in Jinxiang is around 4.6 yuan [0.66 USD] per kg, which is already much higher than the price of 3.4-3.8 yuan [0.49-0.55 USD] per kg last week. One kilo of fresh garlic yields around 0.6 kg of dried garlic. The price of top-quality dried garlic is more than 6 yuan [0.87 USD] per kg." "The current price is much higher than last year because the overall production area devoted to garlic plantation was huge last year, the price was therefore low. In addition, the product quality of garlic suffered from extreme weather conditions last year. The price also increased because garlic farmers improved plantation management, as well as the management of harvesting and drying garlic. The product quality and the production volume per hectare greatly increased this year."
"The overall surface area devoted to garlic plantation almost reached 37 thousand hectares this year. Jishu, Xinglong, and Sima early-season garlic are already on the market, and the harvest of Xiaoyun and Huayu garlic have also begun. The entire harvest is expected to finish in around 10 days. The processing of dried garlic for export is expected to begin around May 25th. Our company grows and exports garlic. We are currently working hard to stock our warehouses. Once we finish preparations, we will be fully prepared for another season of garlic export."
