Peak period of fruit transport from west China begins early this year

The "Western Honey" Hami melons and mushy tomatoes from Turpan in Xinjiang are "trending online". More than 20 tons of these two products are air freighted from Xinjiang every day. This is an increase of almost 20% in comparison with the same time last year. China Southern Airlines revealed that transport of fruit is quick this year with a great variety of fruits in large volumes.

Transport began with tomatoes and Hami melons on April 20th, and was followed by apricots and cherries from Tajikistan on May 6th and May 8th respectively. This means that the peak period of air freight from Xinjiang and Tajikistan began one week earlier than last year.

Most of these products are sold through online shops. The tomatoes are particularly popular. Around 5 or 6 tons of tomatoes are air freighted out of Xinjiang every day. This is an increase of 32% in comparison with the same time last year. The wholesale volumes of these tomatoes are relatively large in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Nanning.
