The Economic Research Institute WIFO in Bolzano regularly publishes a list of wholesale prices for various products. With the publication of these prices for the most important South Tyrolean apple varieties, it wants to provide an orientation for the situation on the apple market. Prices for April 2019 are now available.
A look at recent wholesale prices for the month of April shows that the prices for the 2018 crop for most available varieties are well below the level of last year. If you take the very low harvest 2017 and the following marketing season as an exception and compare the figures with the available figures from the previous year, then the development is quite different: For the varieties Cripps Pink, Granny Smith and Golden Delicious the average prices are currently higher than in April 2017. The varieties Kanzi, Fuji, Gala, Red Delicious and Braeburn were higher in the same month of 2017.
In April 2019, WIFO raised prices for all important South Tyrolean apple varieties - Braeburn, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Cripps Pink, Kanzi and Red Delicious. The published prices are always gross prices, which should show the current trends on the apple market. Of the prices published, the costs of storage, transport, marketing, etc., still have to be deducted in order to give an approximate indication of the expected payment prices.
