The banana price in production areas in Southwest China was mostly stable last week, but increased in some areas. The price of good-quality bananas from Yunnan production areas is around 2.7-3.3 yuan [0.39-0.44 USD] per kg. The price of good-quality bananas in Laos is around 3.8-4.8 yuan [0.55-0.70 USD] per kg. The price of good-quality bananas in Myanmar is around 2.8-3.6 yuan [0.41-0.52 USD] per kg. In some areas the price of premium bananas is even higher. The price of bananas in Hainan showed a downward trend for several days, but is now stabilizing.
The supply of good-quality bananas from production areas in Hekou, Jinping, Yuanyang, Wenshan, and Lincang in Yunnan is in decline. The peak supply period is also over in Xishuangbanna. People in the industry also stated that the banana supply from production areas in Myitkyina in Myanmar as well as production areas in Laos is also dwindling. Visiting traders were eager to restock, but the supply decreased, and so the price went up. The supply volumes from banana production areas in Zhanjiang and Hainan are growing. The center of banana production will shift in the next few weeks.
