Absorption pads serve to absorb and bind liquids from perishable food. This is not only to improve presentation but in particular it increases hygiene, thus making for a longer shelf life of the packaged product. At last year's ExpoSE, South German company W. Dimer presented a new solution, made of natural materials. Apart from the meat and fish industry, the environmentally sound process is also well received in the fruit and vegetable sector, says company spokesman Armin Dannenberger.

Extension of their durability
Every manufacturer or supplier has the problem that packaged fruits and vegetables are juice and moist and thereby spoil. By collecting the amniotic fluid, the mould risk is lowered and shelf life can be extended. In addition, the fruit and vegetables are padded by the inserts, so pressure points can be reduced, said Dannenberger.
DIM Eco inserts
W. Dimer GmbH produces and markets the protective solution exclusively; According to its data, about 10 percent of the total production ends up in the fruit and vegetable industry. The absorbent body of the insert is made of natural material and can be laminated with PE film, bio-film or parchment as a contact surface. There are inserts for soft and top fruit, but also for storage and packaging of vegetables. The inserts are used along the entire supply chain, from the manufacturer through to packers and retailers.
DIM Premium "New Generation"
Eco / fresh and premium solution
The previous customer feedback from the food industry is particularly positive, confirms Dannenberger. "At the moment, our DIM Eco / fresh line is the first to be approved." There is also a second solution: DIM Premium "New Generation": The core of these patented absorptive inserts is coated with a food-grade perforated foil. The liquid absorbed through the perforated foil is then completely enclosed. "All kinds of materials are available to the customer, in any desired color, absorptive rate and size."
