"Rush" on Chinese lychee market pushes price up

Many supermarkets and fruit stores in Nanjing recently began to display lychees in their stores. The price "soared" to 55 yuan [8.07 USD] per 0.5 kg. The "Concubine Smile" lychee on the Nanjing market all come from outside the province. The "rush" on lychee means that the price is extremely high.

The price of lychees in Guangzhou is not as high as in Nanjing, but still sells for 40 yuan [5.87 USD] per 0.5 kg. Prices like this make consumers hesitate. The lychee from Guangdong only just entered the market in large volumes. Whether the price will come down later in the season is still unclear.
