Hans Maagendans, Banafood:

"Free market banana prices much higher than last year"

The banana market has been developing well in recent weeks. "Free market prices are much higher than they were last year. Then, we had to deal with warm weather. Now, it is still quite cold. This makes for a lot of room for good banana sales," says Hans Maagendans. He is from the independent banana ripening company, Banafood. This company is based in Straelen, Germany.

"The market has already been more stable in recent weeks than last year. I expect the market to remain good for the next three or four weeks too. There are not that many other 'inexpensive' Dutch products available yet. This is also beneficial for the market," says Hans.

"Banana supplies are at a good level. It has been a bit colder in Colombia recently. However, production is at a normal level there. All in all, there are sufficient, but not too many, bananas on the market," Hans concludes, satisfied.
