China: "Export price of organic mushrooms shows stable growth"

"The Chinese export of organic mushrooms to overseas markets has steadily increased during the last few years. The price shows a similarly stable growth. This year, the price of organic mushrooms increased by around 15% in comparison with last year." This is according to Terry Lung of Zhejiang Baixing Food Co., Ltd.

"There are two reasons for the stable price increase: first, domestic and overseas consumers become increasingly aware of the nutritional value of mushrooms, in particular organic mushrooms. This growing awareness translates into growing popularity of mushrooms in Chinese markets and abroad. Second, the fresh mushroom market is developing fast. The high price of fresh mushrooms in turn pushes the price of dried mushrooms to rise."

"We established our company in 1996. We first exported dried mushrooms in 2007. We offer a wide variety of mushrooms, but the most popular varieties are shiitake and Penny Bun [boletus edulis]. The Penny Bun production season begins every year in July and ends in October. We mainly export our dried mushroom products to Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia. We can offer year-round supply."
