As of this month Asianuts will be sourcing organic medjoul dates with the social Smeta certificate as well as the GlobalGAP, BRC Food and European organic standard. "We see that there are still questions from our customers, particularly the large retail chains, about the social conditions in which our dates are grown. Sometimes there is an incorrect view of the date cultivation. This is why I believe it is important to show our commitment by having our supplier do a Smeta audit," explains Gil Berholz.
At the moment there are few suppliers of Medjoul dates with a social certificate and I hope the supply will increase. It's good for everyone and for the image of the medjoul date in general," according to Gil. "The demand is currently increasing slightly for Ramada and we have finished a new, socially certified shipment of medjoul dates for direct shipments."
"We are also working on certifying our growers with the GRASP add-on module. One grower has already obtained this certificate. There is always work to be done to convince more growers to participate. It's important that we receive support from the market," concludes Gil.
