After a long winter, Superfresh Growers® said it is stretching its legs and getting busy raising the 2019 crops. From newly added blueberries, to apples, pears, cherries and apricots, Dave Gleason discusses spring farming activities.
“All of these need bees,” Gleason explains. “We are careful to take care of our bees every year. We have healthy bees out in the orchards. It’s fun to watch them!”
The bees are not the only ones buzzing with activity. Superfresh Growers said it is prepping the orchards with sustainability in mind. Activities include prepping ground, upgrading to efficient irrigation, and utilizing compost to increase soil health.
At the time of filming, April 18th, apricots, blueberries, and cherries were in full bloom, and pears were just behind. As of April 24th, pears are now in full bloom, with apples to come. The company said it is hopeful for an excellent bloom, and an excellent crop.
This year, Superfresh Growers said it will be adding blueberries into their offerings. This is the inaugural year partnering with Norris Farms out of Roseburg, OR. Together they will be offering both organic and conventional blueberries.
