NFO reports that the store of organic apples in Europe is 6 percent lower than expected beforehand. At the start of April the European Biofruit Forum (EBF) along with the main suppliers of organic apples, determined how many apples are still stored for the fresh market. Due to the drought and insects in 2018 the average pack out, depending on variety and origin, is lower than in previous years. The stricter demands of packaging stations are also a result of the lower pack out. The current apple store is expected to be enough to serve the market until the end of the season.
After the frosty year of 2017, there was once again a large enough production in 2018 to offer consumers organic apples all season. Besides the recovery of the production, the area of organic apple cultivation also increased in 2018. The market for organic apples grew parallel to this.
