After being nominated for the first Alsatian market, Saint-Louis will compete for the title of “most beautiful market of France”, organized by the French TV channel TF1. It will compete with 23 regional markets until mid-June.
It is a quality market with a warm atmosphere. We do not need anything fancy to present a diversified quality market!,” explains Jean-Louis Alizier, who rents spaces to the market’s sellers.
Besides products that are local, organic, or from reasoned farming, the Saint-Louis market offers products from all over the world: African, Afghan, Spanish, Thai, Latin-American, Reunionese or local cuisine, Italian goods… “We have more than 110 nationalities present at Saint-Louis,” explains Jean-Louis.
The atmosphere is maintained by the many associations that regularly organize events. For Easter, for example, the sellers had decorated their booths with eggs and chicks, wearing straw hats with a message urging customers to vote for the Saint-Louis market. Coffee, brioches, and apple juice were handed out for free.
Furthermore, the market benefits from a trinational clientele, thanks to its proximity with Switzerland and Germany. With his 5,000 visitors, its exceptional atmosphere, its 159 years and incredibly diversified quantity of fruits, vegetables and other products, the Saint-Louis market is a major contender in this competition.
