Draft law by Portugal’s Green Party approved

Portugal: Ban on plastic for bread, fruit, vegetables from June 2020

A draft law by Portugal’s Green Party to ban ultra-lightweight plastic bags and polystyrene trays used to package bread, fruit and vegetables from June 2020 onwards, has been approved. The text will be handed over to the 11th parliamentary committee to further discussion before final approval.

The draft law stipulates the need to find an alternative to ultra-lightweight plastic bags and polystyrene trays at sales points of bread, fruit and vegetables. An article on theportugalnews.com explains that the stores in question will also be subject to fines if they violate the law.
