The cooperative company “Mangeons bio ensemble” (MBE), based in Bressuire (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), is getting organized and equipped to tackle the collective catering market. The goal is to “meet the 20% demand for organic products from public collective catering by 2022,” explains the director, Cécile Remeau. MBE currently gets its supply from about 50 producers and/or processors of the region.
In a competitive context, the cooperative continues to grow steadily (first profit in 2015), targeting mostly collective catering, which represents 70% of the revenue, while specialized stores represent 15% of the business. MBE is therefore restructuring itself “in order to increase our share of local supply, which currently accounts for 53% of our sales,” explains Cécile Remeau.
A development which goes through new sectors, like the cultivation of vegetables, with the relocation of key products such as the potato or the carrot. “Eventually, we will have new profiles of field vegetable growers in the Poitou-Charentes region.” Another priority of MBE is to acquire new facilities (5,382 square feet of warehouses and offices) in Bressuire.
