Burglar caught and sentenced after taking a bite from grower's tomato

What do you do when you get hungry during a burglary? You just take a bite of a tomato of course, there are plenty of them in the greenhouse. A 37-year-old burglar paid dearly for this snack, however, as he was caught and sentenced to four months incarceration without probation based on DNA found on the tomato, writes the AD.

In July 2017 a computer, camera and measuring equipment was taken from Gebroeders Zwinkels in 's-Gravenzande. The culprit turned out to be known to police. His lawyer's defence that he had eaten the tomato whilst working as a greenhouse builder, was called 'far-fetched'. Furthermore, the manner of breaking in (lifting out windows in the greenhouse) showed the man had experience as a greenhouse builder, according to the judge.
