Fabrizio Zadra, an apple producer from Sanzeno Val di Non (Trento), has decided to diversify its production with soft fruit and with blueberries in particular. The company features an apple orchard covering 4 hectares and 700 blueberry plants.

"We grow the Royal Gala, Star Delicious, Golden Delicious and Evelina varieties and are planning on a new SweeTango orchard. Our land is located 700 meters above sea level in Val di Non and we are part of Consorzio Melinda".

Zandra opted for blueberries to differentiate production. He chose the Cargo and Duke varieties. A small part of the production will be used for B&B Agritur "I colori", while the rest will be collected by Melinda.
"Our 700 plants will produce around 3 tons of blueberries. I have set up a net system to prevent Drosophila suzukii and we use drip fertigation."

In 2017, frost damaged 80% of the company orchards. "Of course we have insurance and our income was guaranteed. In addition, 50% of our land is covered with anti-hail nets."
The quality of the 2018 produce was high and quantities also improved. "Two years ago we also started doing agritourism, the real type, meaning we serve our own apple juice and apple products. In the next few years, we will also be able to serve blueberry products."
