Mexico has shipped 215,000 tons of potatoes

Almost 90% of the potato harvest is already in and, according to estimates, the remaining production will be harvested in what remains of this month.

Gildardo Gonzalez Saldivar, the president of the Potato Special Section, said that by Saturday, April 13, they had harvested 12 thousand of the almost 13 thousand hectares that were planted during the current 2018-2019 autumn-winter season.

He also said that a total of 215 thousand tons of potatoes had already been shipped to the different national markets and the national frying industry.

At the moment, he said, the general production average stands at 24 tons per hectare, which despite being low, does not reflect the production that is stored in the cellars by the producers, according to their commitments to supply their different customers, both for the fresh market and the frying industry, after the harvest.
