The Association of Producers and Exporters of Fruit, Table Grapes and other agricultural products (Apoexpa) has made a positive assessment of the 2018 campaign and foresees improvements in the 2019 season, since up to now there have been neither losses in the harvests, nor adverse meteorological phenomena taking a toll on the production.
This was stated on Thursday by the president of the association, Joaquín Gómez, before holding its general assembly, which counted with the participation of the president of the autonomous region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras.
Gómez recalled that in 2018, the stone fruit and table grape campaigns were both good and growers were able to meet their objectives. Prospects for 2019 are also good, especially for stone fruit, whose production was reduced by 20 percent last year due to several factors. This year, the harvest should reach its full potential.
The harvest will kick off one week ahead of other years, which is good for exports, and there have been no adverse weather events with the capacity to damage the production.
According to López Miras, in 2018, this sector exported 172,000 tons, with profits amounting to 230 million Euro.
