Market Report Austria KW 15/2019:

'Season end for potatoes nears, onion prices continue to rise'

Without any significant changes, the potato market of 2018/19 is sliding towards the end of the season. From marketers, the dwindling quantities are being continuously sold to the food trade. The ranges are being increasingly restricted. Within the offerings, large calibres are still somewhat more abundant than medium-sized ones. In the supermarkets, local produce is more and more often is supplemented by old harvest French potatoes.

New potatoes from the Mediterranean are also gaining in popularity with consumers. The prices for the last batches remain unchanged. In Lower Austria, table potatoes are usually marketed at 25 Euro / 100 kg. For wire worm-free, small packable premium goods with AMA quality label, up to 30, - € / 100 kg will be gotten. In Upper Austria, where the marketing will come to an end in the coming week, up to 29 Euro / 100 kg was being paid. The potato plants are still able to cope with the very dry weather conditions.

Onion prices continue to rise
For the ever-decreasing supply of onions from Lower Austria, prices have picked up this week. The available goods are entirely from cold storages and are of a very good quality. Available are both medium and large calibers. Sales are flowing steadily. For onion, cleaned and sorted in the box, depending on the quality and size, the costs were usually between 56 and 60 Euro / 100 kg.

Carrot market in Lower Austria unchanged
The sales of carrots from Lower Austria is regular, both at home and abroad. Producer prices remain unchanged, but are at a fine level.
