On Wednesday, a GFI delegation from around 25 wholesale and weekly market managers starts their annual study trip to the metropolitan cities of Europe. After London 2016, Madrid 2017 and Athens 2018, this year Lisbon is the destination.
"An exciting time full of new impressions and experiences is once again in front of us", says GFI board member Rolf Strobel about the excursion. "The City of the 'Seven Hills' is lively, cosmopolitan and has been a meeting place of cultures since the 15th century. Lisbon combines history with current trends - also for us 'foodies'. This interaction characterizes authentic markets."

The extensive program includes visits to the MARL supermarket, to four 'mercados' (market halls and street markets) and a meeting with the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The aim of the GFI study trips is a sound exchange of experience on sustainable market concepts. This time, GFI receives support from its colleagues of Portuguese wholesale market group SIMAB, with whom the WUWM World Union of Wholesale Markets has a deep bond. They ensure that the GFI members get a look behind the scenes and can witness how the management of the markets works, so they can bring new and valuable impulses to their own businesses in Germany.
