Italian produce to be available in 50 days' time

Harvesting of peaches and nectarines starts in Spain

The harvesting of the first Spanish peaches and nectarines has officially started in a protected crop in Huelva, one week earlier than in the past campaign. The harvesting of apricots, plums and Saturn peaches will start in the next few days.

In Puglia, Italy between San Ferdinando di Puglia and Trinitapoli, peach trees will start to be thinned in 7-10 days' time.

"There are usually 40-50 days between the Spanish season and ours. We will start around 20th-25th May, so there should be no overlaps," reports Nicola Bollino.

"This is good, as then we would not have to compete with Spain and we will be able to supply constant quantities. Yields are expected to be abundant and professional producers will benefit from that. Those who only focus on quantity will supply medium-small peaches."

Generally, the harvesting of the Francoise, Sagittaria and Flariba varieties starts around 10th-15th May, but "there is a small delay this year."
