EU agrees 3 month visa waiver for Britons

MPs vote to force further Brexit extension

MPs have voted to force the Prime Minister to ask for a further extension in the Brexit process by one vote, in order to avoid a no-deal Brexit.

The Commons passed the bill in one day, and it will be considered by the Lords later today who need to give approval before it becomes law. It will still be down to the EU whether to grant an extension though.

Prime Minister Theresa May is still in talks with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn to try to end the Brexit deadlock.

Meanwhile the Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, has stressed the urgent need for businesses to take a few minutes to register online with Revenue in order to get a customs identification number.

This number, referred to as an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number will be needed by businesses in order to move goods to, from or through the UK and who wish to continue trading with the UK post-Brexit.

The EU has today said it would put a three month visa waiver in place for Britons visiting the EU for short periods. The waiver would apply whether there was a deal or no-deal, but only if the UK granted the same rights to EU citizens
