May to ask for further extension for Bexit

After a series of votes, all of which have been voted down by MPs Theresa May will now ask the EU for a further extension to article 50, she wants to use the extra time to have talks with the opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn.

She has insisted that her withdrawal agreement which was voted down again last week will remain part of the deal.

Corbyn is said to be happy to meet with her and would ensure plans for a customs union and protection of worker’s rights were discussed.

This decision by May has not been popular with pro-Brexiteers within the party.

The UK has until 12th April to present a plan to the EU, if the plan is not accepted then the UK will leave with no deal.

European leaders have said that a no-deal on 12th April is now a probable outcome, as officials warned that granting any additional extension would be tied to conditions that the British government could find unpalatable.

“We have to take into consideration a no-deal possibility. It’s a probability,” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte told reporters in Luxembourg on Tuesday. “We are no longer looking for an exit, but rather an emergency exit,” Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel said.
