Weuthen market info from 29.03.2019

Potato prices stable and at high levels

Supply and demand were in the balance last week, as can be seen in the Weuthen market information from 29.03.2019. The prices are stable, but at high levels. The domestic offer is supplemented by French and English batches and the first imports from Egypt and Israel are covering the supply of new potatoes. Spanish goods are expected to be available from the beginning of May. Due to the good growth conditions so far, an optimal window of opportunity for marketing is to be expected.

Management of the main crop for processed potatoes is proceeding according to plan. Until the end of May, factories are mostly covered with regard to contract potatoes and are awaiting further development for the last few weeks of the season. Prices are largely stable, except for the Belgian Bintje, which is currently weaker. However, the futures market is expected to strengthen this month.

Seed potatoes for cultivation 2019
Varieties such as Anais, Jazzy and Melody, as well as Musica, Malika and Annabell are already sold out - Ranomi is still available. German varieties, including Milva, Noblesse, Queen Ann. Toscana, Marabel etc., are still available.

Varieties for processing
There are still remainders of Markies, Innovator, Agria and Arsenal in the main crops. "In the respective regions we have planted our newcomers Chenoa, Linus, Jurata, Marvel and Divaa, and no seedlings will be available by 2019." The chip varieties are largely sold out or they are already placed for contract cultivation. Early varieties for French fries (like the Zorba), are already sold out.
