Since Thursday, the strike of the employees of the Florette factory in Lessay (Manche) has caused a slowdown in production. The issue at hand: the management’s decision to allow work on public holidays, without compensation. “We are not against working on public holidays, but the management should reward the effort,” indicates Alain Ménard, CFDT representative.
This decision was made as the employees had already been refused the premium proposed by Macron. The latest salary negotiations had also left them disappointed, and this year, participation in the company’s results and profit-sharing will represent a gain three times lower than last year’s. The employees therefore hope that working on public holidays will be organized on a voluntary basis, that the day of solidarity will be on a holiday, that no overtime hours will be worked on public holidays, and finally, that the management will grant a bonus of 25 euros [28 USD] for working during a public holiday.
Following the negotiations, almost all the requests have been granted by the management, except for the bonus. The strike will go on until all the demands are accepted.
