The International Saint-Charles Market might lose its “fruit and vegetable train”

Every day for decades, a freight train specialized in fruits and vegetables has been leaving for Rungis with its precious shipment. But the contract for the operation of the line is coming to an end. In June, if no provider takes over, the line, which was operated exclusively by the SNCF, could cease to exist.

The track departing from Saint Charles is also the fact of the multimodal platform, which continues to function normally. Containers are placed on the train, a method which is getting increasingly popular. The platform shipped 14,000 containers in 2013, 30,000 last year, and plans to ship 35,000 containers, trailers, tanks and other “crates” in 2019.
