“There is always a constant demand for peppers on the French market depending on the colors. Prices are fine, though, generally speaking, green and red peppers are more expensive than the yellow peppers, because they are consumed the most in France,” explains Atef Belabes, commercial director at Marquillanes. “But thanks to our work system, we manage to highlight all three colors together.”
The company is specialized in the import of peppers from Spain and Morocco.

“As soon as the French products arrive on the market, the demand for imported products goes down of course, whether they come from Morocco, Spain or the Netherlands. But there is always a deficit in local and national production. Depending on this, we balance prices and imported volumes to be able to serve the French and European market all year round. Diversity leads to a rich offer and gives consumers the opportunity to consume according to their needs.”

The clientele of Marquillanes is diverse. “We serve the purchasing centers of large retailers, the traditional wholesalers and the industry, which mainly takes our products to transform them into chopped fresh products.”

The oldest company in St. Charles
The company Marquillanes has existed since 1946. It was created by Mr Paul Marquillanes, first president of the National Union of Fruit and Vegetable Importers and Exporters and promoter of the Saint-Charles international platform. It is considered to be one of the oldest companies of the platform. Its assets reside in the diversity of the offer presented, as well as in the mix of Spanish and Moroccan origins. “Little by little, we are turning to other origins, as well as organic products for the years to come,” explains Atef. “Our modern and fully air-conditioned facilities, our commitment to quality, through the IFS LOGISTIC, IFS BROKER, AOE (for export), HACCP, and the International Saint-Charles quality approach (countersigned by the Fraud Services), enable us to retain a clientele that is more and more committed to the traceability and food safety of the products.”
