The Murcian company Grupo El Ciruelo has expanded its warehouse in Cieza by another 1,500 m2 and it now exceeds the 20,000 m2, dedicated, for the most part, to the handling and packing of stone fruits.
"Fortunately, our sales increase every year and we need more and more space to be able to handle and store the growing volumes of stone fruit," explains José Lorente, from the marketing department of Grupo el Ciruelo.
The company expects to handle more than 35,000 tons of stone fruit (apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines, Paraguayo peaches, platerines and cherries) and around 40,000 tons of table grapes.
The expansion will already be operative in the next campaign, which will start in about a month with the harvest of the earliest varieties. "This year, thanks to the good temperatures, the harvest will begin about two weeks earlier, depending on the varieties," announced José Lorente.
Since last season, the company also sells organic table grapes, and it is already cultivating organic fruit trees, whose fruits will hit the shelves in next year's campaign.
"We are betting on the cultivation of new extra early premium plum and apricot varieties, whose fruit stands out for its great juiciness and intense flavor," he concludes.
