Polish exporters continue to actively conquer the Egyptian apple market. According to analysts, in the first half of the season only, the volume of supplies of Polish apples to Egypt multiplied almost 8 times as compared with the same period of the previous season. It was 3.5 times more than for the entire 2017/18 MY.
So, if in the first half of the season 2017/18, Egypt imported a little over 7,000 tons of apples, but, already in the current season, the volume of Polish apple supplies to the Egyptian market is estimated at 56,000 tons. It is worth noting that such a significant increase in deliveries to the market of this country allowed Egypt to enter the TOP-3 buyers of the Polish apple, giving way to the German champions.
As EastFruit previously reported, it is Egypt that this season shows the most active growth rates of apple imports from Poland. Ukraine is also interested in supplying apples to the Egyptian market, but so far the Ukrainian apple is not competitive in price terms with the same Polish because of high duties. At the beginning of 2019, the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association turned to the relevant Ministries with a request to contribute to holding negotiations with Egypt regarding the abolition of import duties on apples. However, so far no active actions by the departments in this direction have been undertaken.
