Switzerland: Lidl wants to settle in the city centers

It has been 10 years since Lidl appeared in Switzerland. At the beginning, the stores were confined to the outskirts of the cities. But today, the discount retailer counts 127 stores in the country.

In order to reach a more urban clientele, the Lidl group wants to open more stores in the city centers and train stations. New stores are expected to open in Morges, Berne and Bienne as of 2022. Nadia von Veltheim, in charge of estate issues at Lidl, announced that the group was interested in the heart of the cities. The discount retailer plans to invest some 3 million Swiss francs [3.02 million USD] in the project.
