Market Report Austria KW 12 / 2019:

'Hardly any firm-cooking potatoes - good availability of onions'

The marketing of Austrian potatoes continues to progress well. The farmers' stocks are clearing more and more quickly. After the first packers finished the potato season a few weeks ago, more packers will be ending the marketing of certain varieties at the end of the month. Particularly firm-cooking -but floury varieties as well- soon will be unavailable from from Lower Austria.

For the predominantly firm-cooking sorts, a supply up to and beyond Easter is still expected. However, the advanced physiological age of the tubers still causes problems in many batches. But there are also lots of potato of very good quality. The price situation does not change for the remaining quantities. In Lower Austria, table potatoes are usually sold at €25 per 100 kg. For wire-worm-free, small packable premium goods with the AMA quality seal, up to €30  per 100 kg can be gotten. In Upper Austria up to €29 per 100 kg was mentioned recently,

Onion continuously available
The marketing of Austrian onion goes on, quietly. Onions will be delivered to the marketers according to their needs, but the willingness to pay has recently increased. Sales are steady both at home and abroad. In some cases, the onions are already from refrigerated warehouses. A market supply up to the new harvest seems assured. Producer prices remain unchanged. For onion, cleaned and sorted in the box, depending on the quality and size, the price was between €48 and 52 per 100 kg.

Calm carrot market
The marketing of Austrian carrots continues quietly. There are sufficient quantities for domestic and foreign needs. The carrots are consistently supplied to the marketers. Producer prices remain unchanged.
