A very successful event for the 50th anniversary of the MIN

Rungis in the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s longest table!

On Sunday, March 17th, 2019, Rungis’s performance was entered in the Guinness Book of Records, for accommodating 2,200 people around a 1,316-foot long table, across two pavilions of fruits and vegetables. A world record that the wholesale market wanted to achieve for its 50th anniversary. Rungis shattered therefore the previous record of the world’s longest table (1,056 feet long) achieved in 2017 on Réunion Island.

Catering was in the hands of Ferrandi, the famous French school of gastronomy and hotel management. As for the preparation of the dishes, “the finest professionals: the best apprentices, the best French workers and interprofessionals took turns to beautifully offer products carefully selected by the market’s wholesalers,” as shared on Linkedin by Stéphane Layani, CEO of the Rungis market.

A 10-foot, 1-ton pork terrine, 265 lbs of beef ribs, a huge seafood platter and a giant apple pie from Blue Whale were among the items of this gargantuan lunch menu.

The many commentaries on social networks testify to the great success of this historic event. Eric Godard Durand, president of Laparra Agency, was present on this very special occasion. “The lunch started around noon, and the last guests left around 5pm. The atmosphere was very festive. It was a nice event, very friendly and very well organized. We all enjoyed it. Throughout the lunch, we were served quality products from the Rungis market of course. This huge table brought together guests from various sectors, from the market and the outside. I think everybody really had a great time.”

The MIN market of Rungis has therefore set the bar high for its 50th anniversary. One might wonder what new record the market will try to break for its 100th anniversary. Meanwhile, our imagination can run free...
