Dorì golden kiwifruits from Chile reach Europe by air

Consorzio Dorì president Giampaolo Dal Pane has visited the central area of Chile to inspect the last stages of harvesting operations.

"I have visited 4 companies, the largest of which is called Lafrut. Overall, there are 130 hectares of Dorì. This is the second harvest, but it is the first year with considerable quantities. Nonetheless, we will not be able to meet demand. Luckily, in 2020, we will have other hectares." .

Quality is very good. "Color is deep yellow, Brix level is around 9 at harvesting and dry matter exceeds 17%. These are the best indicators of a product with excellent organoleptic qualities."

Dorì kiwifruits from South America are destined to Japan, China, Korea and Brazil but Europe also demands high-quality produce, which is shipped by air.

"The combination of demand and high quality justifies the costs of air shipping in some cases, albeit for small quantities. When the product is in demand and meets expectations, consumers are willing to pay more for it."

The produce harvested is placed in 9 kg plastic crates then put into bins. This way, there are no further costs and the process respects the fruit.

90% of crops in Chile is protected, meaning many hectares were spared from an exceptional hailstorm this spring. The system can be improved, but it does have many advantages also when it comes to Psa.
