The autumn crops did not last until the spring crops were harvested

High spring vegetable prices in China this year

Industry insiders report that the price of vegetables is always relatively high around this time of year, and the main reason is that the autumn harvest does not last until the spring harvest comes in. The vegetable supply from storage and from greenhouses is not sufficient enough to meet with consumer demand. When market supply is insufficient, traders have to bring in vegetables from further away, which includes higher transport cost and the risk of damage to the products in transport.

In addition, some vegetable production areas in south China suffered from cold weather this year. Low temperatures and excessive rainfall reduce the overall vegetable production volume, which further pushes the price upward. When the new harvest comes in and market supply grows, the price will come down again.
