The Greenery introduces Vitamin D mushrooms

Mushrooms and other edible fungi are ideal meat replacements due to their structure. They also naturally contain nutrients such as vitamin B, protein and minerals. This means they fit well into a healthy diet. With the help of UV lighting, mushrooms can now also be foreseen of vitamin D.

Mushrooms naturally contain the substance ergosterol, which turns into vitamin D when influenced by sunlight. Mushrooms grown naturally develop vitamin D as they grow in the sun. But because white or chestnut mushrooms are grown in the dark, this process isn't activated. By imitating nature and shining UV light on the mushrooms shortly after harvest, the vitamin D is created naturally by the mushrooms.

The Greenery will be adding vitamin D mushrooms to their assortment of funghi from now on. The mushrooms are packaged at Jarno Goesten's cultivation company in Ammerzoden.
