Vivai F.lli Zanzi has invested in varieties with good organoleptic qualities that are highly productive and resistant to cracking. Each variety is tested so that producers do not have any unwelcome surprises.
"Our catalog features around thirty varieties, which we recommend depending on the characteristics of each company when it comes to weather and soil conditions and the type of market. Anyway we tend to advise against cultivars that, despite the large grades and good appearance, do not have high organoleptic qualities," explains expert Enrico Zanzi.
Crunchy cherries with high Brix levels must be favored, yet "of course they need to also have high productivity, an appealing color, resistance to cracking and they need to not be too delicate. While it is true that modern orchards are covered with plastic films, it is better to have a product with a certain tolerance to diseases."
"Lately we have obtained good results with cultivars from the Cep Innovation series such as Ferdiva, Ferdouce, Fermina and Fertille, to name a few. They have good grades and a high organoleptic quality."
In June 2018, Zanzi organized a technical day during which IPS varieties were showcased. Royal Helen proved to be one of the most interesting as it has large crunchy fruits and a high Brix level. In addition, it is rather tolerant to cracking."
