Hapag-Lloyd reports increase in turnover thanks to takeover UASC

Shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has had a good year, according to the provisional annual figures. They shipped 11.8 TTEU (2017: 9.8 TTEU). The financial figures also reported an increase.

Turnover increased by 15% to 11.5 billion euro. Turnover was 10 billion a year earlier. The increase is mostly thanks to the merger with UASC, and the 21% increase in transport volume this came with. Just like other shipping companies, Hapag-Lloyd was also affected by higher bunker prices. Prices rose from 318 dollar per tonnes in 2017 to 421 dollar per tonnes in 2018.

The EBITDA rose from 1.1 billion euro (2017: 1 billion euro). This increase is thanks to a larger volume and the higher transport tariffs in the second half of the year. The merger with UASC and accompanying synergies also boosted the figures.

Definitive figures will be published on 22 March. Please click here to view the provisional figures.
