Nico Spruijt, Yex:

"Avo prices low for this time of year; but I expect an upswing"

The avocado market is quiet at the moment. "Prices are on the low side for this time of year," says Nico Spruijt of the Dutch company, Yex. "In any case, lower than in the last three years."

"Until last summer, the avocado market looked like it was going only one way - up. However, last year's price dip was a wake-up call for the whole chain."

"The current price for hard avocados is between EUR8,50 and EUR9,50. These avocados come from Mexico and Colombia. This is not much. I do, however, expect the market to recover toward the end of the month," says Nico.

"In the coming period, we will get volumes from Mexico and Chile. Those from Peru are also slowly getting started from now on. The total volumes will, however, be somewhat smaller."
