A delegation of distributors and representatives of the largest fresh fruit wholesale market in China, Jiangnan, of Guangzhou, met with executives of the Association of Exporters of Frutas de Chile AG (ASOEX) and visited fruit packing facilities with the aim of deepening relations and getting to know in greater depth the Chilean export fruit industry.
The delegation, which included representatives of 24 distribution companies of the Jiangnan market and was led by its President and General Manager, Ye Canjiang, visited the offices of ASOEX on Tuesday. On the occasion, the representatives of ASOEX provided details on union's work and the situation of the Chilean export industry, highlighting that shipments of Chilean fruit to China presented the highest increase (+66%) in the 2017-2018 season. Many of these volumes of fruit reached the Chinese consumer through the Jiangnan wholesale market.
Ye Canjiang stated that this was the fourth time he had visited Chile, as he feels that's the only way to establish closer relations with fruit producers and exporters, while letting the market members get to know all the efforts being made to deliver such high quality fruit to China. "Chilean fruit has a better quality every day and therefore Chilean fruits, such as their cherries, have a very good reception by consumers in China," he said.
"I am accompanied by the most important fruit distributors in our market, who want to better know the industry, contact more exporters and better explore the Chilean fruit market. A very important factor of the Chilean fruit is that it is produced in the counter season. This means that when it's winter in China it's summer in Chile. Therefore, the Chilean fruits can complement very well the supply of fruits we need and consumers want," Ye Canjiang stated.
The representative of this important Chinese wholesale market also highlighted the importance of the promotional campaigns carried out by Chile to promote the consumption of fruits
In turn, Miguel Canala-Echeverria, the CEO of ASOEX, said: "We must remember that the wholesale markets of China are a relevant player in the distribution chain of fresh fruit, in some places even more than retail."
