Wilfried Jeurissen, Limburgse Tuinbouw Veiling

“Despite high prices, Me Amore pears are flying off the shelves”

“The Me Amore pear season ended two weeks earlier than expected. Our stocks were depleted by the end of last week," says Wilfried Jeurissen of the Limburgse Tuinbouw Veiling.

"Carrefour has the exclusive sales rights for Me Amore in Belgium. Impex Heemskerk represents us in the Dutch market. These pears are flying off the shelves, despite their high prices."

"Last week, Carrefour has a lovely promotion with the Me Amore. It coincided nicely with Valentines Day," he says.

These pears did not suffer any consequences from the dry summer. "They were of excellent quality. They were also exactly the right sizes for trading - between 75 and 85", continues Jeurissen.

"This year, we had 130 tons of product. Next year, we are expecting to have 200 tons. Currently, we have planted twelve hectares. We are, however, building it up for the future, slowly but surely. We do not want to force things or let them get out of hand."

“We have noticed that the consumers are very satisfied. The reactions were very positive. This response is great, especially in this difficult top fruit season. The good Me Amore sales give up hope again for the next season", concludes Wilfried.
