Turkey: vegetables at half price to fight inflation

In Istanbul, dozens of people queued for hours to buy fruits and vegetables at half price. With this initiative from the Turkish government, the authorities opened their markets to sell products cheaper and fight inflation.

Within one year, the price of food products increased by 31%. The retailers blame the storms that hit the agricultural regions in the south, while president Recep Tayip Erdogan points to a “food terror”.

Some view this action as an electoral maneuver, less than two months before the local elections.
