Sorma Group - new sorting software and packagers that cut down on plastic up to 70%

There was a great success for Sorma Group at Fruit Logistica 2019. The company specializes in the supply of automated machinery for post-harvesting and technical packaging material. At the fair, operators from different parts of the world showed their interest.

Among the various solutions on display, InstanDEF-QI 2.0 was particularly popular. It is an innovative artificial vision system installed on the SormaTech grader.

"It is a system that sorts fruit according to weight, diameter, color, exterior quality and ripening stage. It can be used for citrus fruit, tomatoes, kiwis, apples and onions. Our main focus was to create a product that was easy to use for operators with little experience. Our software has a user-friendly interface so parameters can be modified easily to reach the objective needed," explains Daniele Severi, an engineer at Sorma Iberica.

"In just 3 years, we installed 150 systems all over the world and in South America, Europe, USA and Eastern countries in particular. The fair went well, as many new markets have shown their interest for this type of product."

"Cameras work in multi-specter mode to identify and discard every single defect. This way, users can simply set the potentiometer and decide the quantity of defects admitted per category."

"The latest innovation, which we presented in Berlin, is the new SmartClass function: it is a neuronal network system that enables the automatic regulation of potentiometers."

Sorma Group's catalog includes a complete range of ideal packaging perfect for any type of product and packing. The BSH-134 and BRS-143 were presented at the fair.

Sales and marketing manager Marco Mercadini reports that "the former makes Sormabag netted bags made up of a single material and completely recyclable. Polypropylene is used both in the handle and reel so, for many products, we can save up to 70% on plastic."

"The machine also uses the TermoTransfer system to print directly on film, so there is no need for thermal paper labels which would make the product non-recyclable."

"With BRS-143 we use polyethylene, so we can cut on plastic by 50% compared to the other packaging in use."
