Faced with the growing foreign demand for organic products, the Moroccan Export Association wishes to set up a PPP structure. A meeting was organized recently by ASMEX with the Bio Entrepreneurs Club (CEBio) in order to address the sector’s export issues. The operators have identified several problems.
From this meeting, it appears that, for the most part, organic products are exported in raw form or in bulk, which only meets the specific needs of the foreign producers seeking to minimize costs. Additionally, the organic market in Northern European countries is experiencing a significant growth, of about 20%. It is therefore necessary to group professionals by product categories or integrators specialized in distribution with strong cash mobilization skills, as well as to set up a network of partners in the target countries.
The Moroccan market does not cover its own domestic demand for organic products and there is a noticeable dispersion of efforts and lower negotiation margin, due to the lack of a coherent vision on exportation.
ASMEX and the operators therefore wish to promote the Bio label “Made in Morocco” on foreign markets, as well as to develop the integrated organic sector. “The demand for organic products is evolving steadily around the world. Today, ASMEX is calling for the support of national distribution networks and for the creation of an ecosystem towards the sharing of services, creation of synergies and better conditions for export growth,” declared Hassan Sentissi El Idrissi, president of ASMEX.
Finally, they wish to establish a Public-Private Partnership structure (PPP) in order to frame the legal and procedural aspects and to smooth the relations between the sector’s different actors. Many efforts still need to be made in order to raise the competitiveness of Moroccan biological products.
