A 12,500-square-foot indoor produce stand will arise along O’Day Road, Solano County. “Permits are pulled, everything is bought and we are ready to go,” said Raj Kumar Sharma, who is known in Northern California as the ‘Walnut King’.
The produce stand has been in the works since 2015, but has been delayed by a number of reasons. The metal building will include a larger walk-in cooler, an oven and about 2,442 square feet of retail space where he will sell a number of products, including many fresh items he grows himself.
The remaining space will be used for storage and processing, said Saeed Irvani, chief building official for Solano County.
In addition to walnuts, Sharma grows peaches and pomegranates in Solano County, and has pomegranates, plums, persimmons, prunes, pistachios, apples and almonds growing in five other Northern California counties.
