Verena Heuwinkel and her team are almost ready for the Fruit Logistica fair that will take place next week. “The preparations are going well, the samples are ready to go, and we are contacting all the clients and prospects in order to arrange meet-ups. We cannot wait to be at the fair next week to discover the innovations in the fruit and vegetable sector, to exchange with our clients, present our products, and more generally, to see the evolution of our markets.”
This year, Ferrier chose to promote the squash with two small stars at their booth: “P’tits Potes” and “Mini Butt’”. “We made a pun with the names of the small caliber varieties, the ‘petits potimarrons’ (red kuri squash) and the mini butternuts, which are usually less popular with customers than the other calibers,” explains Verena. “We believe they are very interesting in the kitchen as they are easy to stuff and can be cooked into many other dishes appealing to the consumers. Besides, these small calibers are a perfect fit for the consumption pattern of smaller households.”
To appreciate and value all the calibers of a product is a great challenge. Especially since the squash is not likely to disappear from the market stalls or supermarket shelves. “We have been observing an increase and an extension of the squash consumption season in recent years. It went from being consumed only in the winter to being consumed all year round. The great chefs are full of imagination and accommodate it to please our taste buds!”
